Whitmore 1XI (153-4) beat Cheadle 1XI (151) by six wickets

NSSCCL Division One

CHEADLE’S flagging Division One A promotion hopes were further dented on Saturday with defeat at mid-table Whitmore.

Simon Plant’s side, who had one eye on Sunday’s Talbot Cup semi- final against Wood Lane, struggled to 151 all out off 49.1 overs.

Veteran seamer Sibtain Haider inflicted the lion’s share of damage with figures of 5-35. Muhammad Fazil also weighed in with three wickets to help dismiss the home side. Dave Wheeldon offered most resistance with 59 runs.

But it was the inability of Cheadle’s remaining line-up to rack up a decent score that hurt the Tean Road side.

Cheadle did enjoy some early success after Whitmore came to the crease. Joe Bridgewater (0) fell almost straight away and when both Fazil and Josh Cartledge failed to score, the away side were back in contention with Whitmore on 47-4.

However, an unbroken partnership of 106 between Mudassar Butt (92no) and Andy Whitehead (36no) took the game away from Cheadle.

Chris Barker emerged with most credit for Cheadle with figures of 3-67.
